This scholarship is to honor the memory of Julie Hagel, mother, parent, friend and classmate.
Julie participated in LWTG with her daughters Laura and Megan. Throughout her time at LWTG, Julie set an exemplary example for all of us. She was patient, kind and giving to all her classmates big and small. Whether you were a close friend, or someone who interacted with Julie once a week at Toddler Group, she was never too busy to listen and share in your joys, sorrows, struggles and triumphs. Julie had a gift of knowing when to listen, when to give one of her hallmark understanding smiles, and when to offer advice, all while making you feel important to her.
Julie had the innate ability to enjoy just “being” and treasuring her time with her family whether sitting at her kitchen table or anywhere parenthood may have found her. Every minute as a mother was a gift to Julie. She was truly the mother that all mothers need to have in their lives.
Thirteen months after her diagnosis, Julie lost her battle with ALS in December 2014. Her family and friends wish for this scholarship to allow more parents, especially those with special health needs, to enjoy their time with their kids at LWTG. They also encourage parents to be patient, kind and giving to all children and parents, just like Julie demonstrated throughout her daily life.
The Julie Hagel Scholarship will be awarded to family(s) in need due to a Health or Medical challenge. This Scholarship will be awarded on a quarterly basis. Applicants are encouraged to write a short paragraph stating why they are in need, along with completing an application form.
